THE BOUDARIES AER EMINENTLY PORUOS

Flaminia Celata

The research project The Boundaries Are Eminently Porous is supported by Strategia Fotografia 2024 promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.

The project

The project The Boundaries Are Eminently Porous explores the relationship between neuroplasticity and gender, starting from a personal experience of transformation and the dialogue between art and neuroscience. Through participatory workshops, performative practices, and scientific reflections, TBAEP investigates how the brain and identity reshape over time in response to experiences, stimuli, and internal changes.

During a residency in Folkestone (UK), the artist developed the Plastic Lab, an experimental workshop with queer individuals who experienced an identity change in adulthood, and The Memory Palace, focused on memory and people with dementia.

The project intertwines visual, neuroscientific, and social research to make visible the invisible processes of the mind — the connections, transformations, and thresholds that define who we are and how we change.
