Coinquilini (Roommates) is the fourth appointment in the Roommates / Coinquilini exhibition cycle, a project with which the MACRO Museum opens up to the work of young artists and curators on the Roman scene. On this occasion, Guendalina Salini and Marinella Senatore transform the exhibition space into a theatre of the soul and memory, reflecting on the different realities linked to the city community.
Guendalina Salini, with the work “Non troverai mai i confini dell’anima” (You will never find the boundaries of the soul), composes a large mandala of coloured rulers, a structure similar to the decomposed grid of a city, an impermanent design that recalls oriental figures executed with coloured sand with a symbolic value. Marinella Senatore, on the other hand, constructs a “theatre of memory” entitled “Electric Theatre”, in which she interprets stories, anecdotes and memories of past events.
The artists reflected on the different realities linked to the city community. Rome is not a conglomerate formed exclusively by monuments, buildings or streets, but an organism made up above all of individuals, indispensable elements of the unity. In their research, the two artists attach great importance to the subjectivity and experiences of the individual. In fact, they reflect on how these experiences have the power to design paths that are personal and at the same time recognisable to others.
The protagonists of the exhibition, Guendalina Salini (Rome, 1972) and Marinella Senatore (Cava dei Tirreni, Salerno, 1977), were selected by curators Benedetta Carpi de Resmini and Benedetta di Loreto respectively.
