CAPODARTE

A project by Nordine Sajot e Gaia Scaramella
Curated by Latitudo Art Projects

1 January | Pier Paolo Pasolini Library and Franco Basaglia Library, Rome

On January 1, 2024, we were guests of the Libraries of Rome during the Capodarte event, during which we conducted three art workshops together with artists Nordine Sajot and Gaia Scaramella.

At the Pier Paolo Pasolini Library we carried out two different activities: Un mondo per tutti e Così come siamo. The way we are with Nordine Sajot. It was a journey into the fantasy world of Il Barone rampante, a visual exploration of the key elements of the narrative and a look at the novel’s settings to discover Italo Calvino’s world. In the first workshop we created a collective drawing where we imagined the fantastic settings of Calvino’s novel. In the second workshop, through a re-reading of their own reflected image, participants made mirror-masks with which they brought to life the characters from the novel Il Barone rampante, exploring how Calvino’s novel can be vehicle for peace. At the conclusion of the two workshops, the children were invited to bring the characters to life by posing in front of the set they created.

With artist Gaia Scaramella, at the Franco Basaglia Library, we created I colori del mondo, a collage workshop in which young participants constructed masks contaminated by cultural diversity to become citizens of the world. A journey to discover the concepts of diversity and equality to cultivate understanding, solidarity and hope for a peaceful future.
