FRIDAS (Freedom in Rights Identities driven through Arts and Sports), Cooperation Partnerships – ERASMUS-SPORT-2025-SCP, is a two-year European project that combines sport and art to promote health, combat discrimination, and foster inclusivity, with particular attention to gender equality and accessibility for people with disabilities. Inspired by the figure of Frida Kahlo, the project uses rugby—a sport founded on loyalty, trust, and team spirit—together with multimedia arts to overcome mental and physical barriers.
The project involves girls and boys aged 12 to 17 in a pathway that combines gamification, participatory artistic practices, and sports activities, making them active protagonists in a creative and collective process.
Through the practices of bodily empathy developed by the Wheelchair Rugby ASD Romanes team and the audiovisual research of Monkeys Video Lab, the artists involved in this second edition, the project aims to foster learning, inclusion, and awareness of one’s own body and of the relationship with others.
In this new phase, they will work with participants – young people from the partner countries – through audiovisual workshops and film production processes that will lead, in 2027, to the creation of an immersive multimedia installation designed to engage the audience in a participatory experience.
Another distinctive element of this edition will be the creation of an educational video game, developed by Mekit Studio in collaboration with the young participants and with Monkeys Video Lab. It will not simply be a digital product, but an interactive experience that will allow players to experiment with adaptive sports, face architectural barriers, and understand the challenges that athletes with disabilities deal with in their daily lives.
FRIDAS also expands its international network, involving five countries: Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Spain, strengthening a collaboration that brings together sports clubs, artists, digital designers, and experts in inclusion.
The project is conceived and coordinated by Latitudo (Italy) and will be developed in collaboration with five rugby teams: U.S. Primavera Rugby (Italy); RK Zagreb – Ragbi Klub Zagreb (Croatia); Menorca Rugby Club (Spain); Bulgarian Rugby Federation (Bulgaria); and ASD Romanes Wheelchair Rugby (Italy). The latter plays a central mentoring role, offering younger participants a concrete example of inclusive and accessible sport. Among the project partners is also Liminal (Greece), a non-profit organization based in Athens specialized in inclusive practices and capacity building, which will ensure the cross-cutting integration of approaches based on diversity, equality, and accessibility throughout all phases of the project.
FRIDAS collaborates with a network of associated partners: CONI, FISPES, Hrvatski ragbijaški savez, the Association “Nyama nevazmozhni neshta” of Varna, the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma and FIR.
