The exhibition Luca Maria Patella, Ambienti proiettivi animati, 1964-1984 takes its title from Patella’s first solo exhibition held in Rome in 1968 at Fabio Sargentini’s l’Attico gallery. The exhibition aims to offer a critical reinterpretation of the artist’s beginnings through a selection of some of his most significant works. Ahead of the artistic and cultural trends that would only emerge in the following decades, Luca Maria Patella was, in the first half of the 1960s, one of the pioneers in Europe of the artistic use of photography and film, often placed in relation to natural space and architecture. The exhibition unfolds through a series of ‘environments’ arranged in a pathway that highlights the peculiar creative processes of the artist’s production. The installations, performative actions, photographic canvases, films and artist’s books combine to delineate the image of a ‘total’ artist, creating new points of view.
The project is realised thanks to Roma Capitale, Assessorato alla Cultura, Creatività, Promozione Artistica e Turismo – Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, and with the support and collaboration of the Fondazione Morra di Napoli, which has been taking care of the exhibitions and the general archive for years.
