EGLE BUDVYTYTE

EXHIBITION

19 september – 11 november 2017, AlbumArte, Rome

The show focuses on uncommon situations and contexts juxtaposed to more ordinary and mundane elements, resulting in structural dichotomies and contrasts. In her work, Eglė Budvytytė produces short circuits between reality and fiction, opening up questions on the role of the subject in relation to wider reflections on collective society.

The artist’s work poses itself as a natural reaction against contemporary society, in a world scenario that is more and more governed by cyber intelligence, where social and economic conflicts are ruled by the power of virtual networks. As driven by external inputs, by some deus ex machina, collectives and individual realities challenge conventions and operates contrary to the rules imposed.

The videos exhibited Shaking Chikdren and As if You Are Catching a Bomb are realized in collaboration with Bart Groenendaal.

EGLE BUDVYTYTE

PERFORMANCE

14 october 2017, MAXXI, Museo delle Arti del XXI Secolo, Rome

The performance is part of Eglė Budvytytė’s solo exhibition and it is part of the museum MAXXI program for the 13° Giornata del Contemporaneo AMACI. The performance is characterized by a mobile and dynamic structure that changes and flourishes every time it is presented in a new environment. Nine performers, in a silent march, will run along the streets of the Flaminio district, starting from MAXXI square. These men will perform unusual gestures with extreme firmness and composure, resembling a military unit, where control and rigidity are fundamental requirements. The performance will also convey ideas of guilt, seduction and disguise.
